Kataklismos Paphos  2013!!!


The flood festival is organized every year around Cyprus 50 days after Easter.   The celebration of  Kataklysmos is a Greek Orthodox festival with strong pagan roots relating back to the Greek myth of Deukalion and the ark he built to survive the floods, and ancient ceremonies between Aphrodite and Adonis.

Holy Monday

The First Day of The Holy week signals the start of all the rituals and feasts until the day of the Ascension.

Holy Monday is dedicated to Joseph dearest son of Jacob who was sold by  his brothers to the merchants from Egypt.On the same day in the church people go to hear the  parable of the fig tree that Jesus cursed when he entered Jerusalem.

Holy Wednesday

Easter is the greatest holiday in the Orthodox Church.The Holy Week that ends on the Saturday of the resurrection of Jesus is a set of customs and traditions with a lot of feasts,rituals, cooking, dancing and singing.

Kataklysmos- Bank Holiday Monday in Paphos

Today is also a Bank Holiday Monday in Cyprus. They refer to this weekend as the weekend of "kataklysmos".
