Kataklismos Paphos  2013!!!

The flood festival is organized every year around Cyprus 50 days after Easter.   The celebration of  Kataklysmos is a Greek Orthodox festival with strong pagan roots relating back to the Greek myth of Deukalion and the ark he built to survive the floods, and ancient ceremonies between Aphrodite and Adonis.

In English Kataklysmos is known as Pentecost or Whitsun - the daythe Holy Spirit descended on the disciples of Jesus.

Paphos Celebrations

Today is a Public Holiday and every body in Paphos are going to be in town for the Flood Celebrations.
Swimming, boat and canoe races are held and dance troupes perform the traditional dances of the island.
On this day, even in the towns, the main accessory for children is a water gun, filled to capacity and ready to use!!

Tonight in the Castke Square is the traditional festival of Kataklismos which starts at 9:00 p.m. with 2 groups of traditional Cypriot and Greek dancers and continues with a concert from a Famous Greek Singer!!!!
