Holy Monday
The First Day of The Holy week signals the start of all the rituals and feasts until the day of the Ascension.
Holy Monday is dedicated to Joseph dearest son of Jacob who was sold by his brothers to the merchants from Egypt. On the same day in the church people go to hear the parable of the fig tree that Jesus cursed when he entered Jerusalem.
For most people Holy Monday is the day they start the feast until Saturday Night (Resurrection of Jesus) that they will receive the holy communion.
Continence(feast) means for the Orthodox party that for the rest of this week they will not eat: milk, cheese, meat, oil fish and wine.
In some villages the feast is changing from today and people fed them selves only with the bread and water until the day of the Holy communion.
Finally today all the women especially on the villages since early in the morning start to whitened with lime their courtyards, paint red the pots and planted various flowers.
