Holy Thursday
Holy Thursday is dedicated to the Last Supper which is the last meal that Jesus had with his Apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. Ultima Cena(Last Supper) as Leonardo Da Vinci named the painting above is the day when Jesus said to his students that he is going to be betrayed from one of them and the he is going to leave them.
After the end of their last meal Jesus was betrayed, arrested, tried and then crucified.
The traditions and customs of Holy Thursday is to paint the egg red, bake the traditional lenten cookies in the shape of braids and bake the flaounes wich is a kind of cheese cakemade of short crust with a cheese, egg and mint filling,
formed into triangular and square shapes.
The eggs are painted red from the blood of Jesus. Based on several traditions this customs comes from Mary Magdalen.
She went to the Emperor of Rome and greeted him with "Christ has risen,"
Then the Emperor pointed to an egg on his table and stated, "Christ has no
more risen than that egg is red."
After making this statement it is said
the egg immediately turned blood red.
At Saturday we are going to paint our eggs red ,
teach our guests hoe to make flaounes
and celebrate the resuraction of Jesus with Greek
music and dancers
